POLYESTER CARPET

Polyester is becoming a very popular synthetic fibre used in carpets. The fibre has a very luxurious “hand” and comes in some of the richest colours of any fibre. Because it is process-dyed, polyester has excellent fade resistance, while its relatively soft fibres give a rich feel, with high “perceived” quality.

TRIEXTA CARPET

Triexta is a synthetic polymer partially derived in large part from corn sugar (instead of petroleum), making this an environmentally friendly option when making your carpet selection. Similar in composition to polyester, triexta was originally defined as a polyester product.

SOLUTION DYED NYLON CARPET

The main difference between plain old nylon and solution dyed nylon is in the yarn colouration process. With solution dyeing, pigment is added to the polymer melt before the fibre is extruded into yarn.

The colour, therefore, is an inherent part of the yarn itself and although solution dying may not offer as wide a colour selection as other dye methods, its colours are the most permanent.  This makes fading from the harsh Australian sun virtually impossible. Colour loss from abrasive cleaning agents is also highly unlikely.  For those concerned about chemicals and the environment, the solution dyeing process itself is eco-friendly and efficient, using little water or energy.

Solution dyed carpet is very resistant to wear and tear, so it keeps its appearance for a very long time.

POLYPROPYLENE CARPET

Also known as olefin, polypropylene carpets are a synthetic fibre carpet that is quite easily made by manufacturers, resulting in an inexpensive product for consumers. While it has a lower resiliency rating, it is commonly produced in low loop style carpets, minimizing signs of wear.

WOOL CARPET

Wool is the most durable carpeting option. Although it is more expensive than synthetic fibre/nylon carpets, the value that it adds to your home – plus the fact that it will outlast any nylon carpet – It actually makes it a very good option for your budget. One of the best advantages of wool carpeting is its ability to hide soil. Wool will not show dirt as much as other fibres because wool is an opaque fibre. Therefore, wool carpets are better than synthetic fibres. Also, since wool is an opaque fibre, light makes the dirt harder to see. Wool carpets are easy to clean because the wool has natural water repellent (lanoline) properties and wool also has less static electricity to attract dirt. Wool carpets will also make your home cooler in summer and warmer in winter due to its natural insulation ability.
